State-level symposium on International Justice Day (17/07/2025) featuring Hon'ble Justice K. Chandru (Retd.), Dr. Devasitham (ILED, Justice solutions), and M.S. Smitha Sadasivan (Disability Rights India Foundation) to discuss law, human rights, and inclusive justice.

Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR Training Program (30/06/2025 – 08/07/2025). This essential training, focused on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use, and choking relief for adults, children, and infants, was conducted to equip participants with critical, life-saving emergency medical skills.

Guest lecture on "Building a Career in Organic Farming" (01/08/2025). The session featured Mr. Praveen Kumar, Founder of Mei Organics, who shared practical insights on establishing a viable career in organic agriculture, covering sustainable farming practices, business models, market trends, and the environmental impact of the organic sector.

Session on "Experience the Vibrant World of Tamil Folk Arts" (01/08/2025). The session was conducted by Mr. Gajendaran, Founder of the Gajendar Folk Dance Academy, providing an engaging and educational exploration of the rich cultural heritage, history, forms, and significance of traditional Tamil folk dances and arts.

Investiture Ceremony (13/08/2025). This formal event marked the induction of the new student council and office bearers. The ceremony was graced by Tr. Vijaya Krishna Raj, Inspector of Police – T9 Station, who addressed the students on the importance of leadership, responsibility, discipline, and civic duty, before formally presenting the badges and sashes to the newly appointed student leaders.

One-Day Workshop on Ethical Hacking (08/09/2025). This hands-on workshop, conducted in collaboration with VIP Academy, provided participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills in ethical hacking and cyber security. The session focused on understanding vulnerabilities, penetration testing, and defensive strategies to ensure digital security, fostering a sense of responsible technological practice.

One-Day Training Program on Cervical Cancer: Prevention, Early Detection, and Peer Education (29/08/2025). The session was led by Ms. C. Santhi, Senior Consultant at Kalpavriksham – Solving Cancer Crisis, focusing on equipping participants with knowledge regarding the prevention strategies (like vaccination), techniques for early detection (screening methods), and effective communication strategies for peer education concerning cervical cancer and overall women's health.

Peer Education Awareness Program on Cervical Cancer (03/09/2025). This session utilized a peer-to-peer approach to effectively disseminate crucial, culturally relevant information. The program focused on increasing knowledge about the causes (primarily HPV), risk factors, prevention strategies (including the HPV vaccine), and the importance of early detection through regular screening (Pap smears). The goal was to empower trained student leaders to act as health champions, influencing positive behavior and increasing awareness among their peers.

Nutrition Week Celebration (01/09/2025 – 03/09/2025). This multi-day event focused on promoting healthy eating habits and addressing food security. The celebration included specialized talks by Mr. Arun Kumar (Director, No Food Waste Chennai Region) on food waste management and sustainability; Ms. Aarthi.G (Senior Clinical Dietitian) on personalized clinical nutrition and healthy diets; and Dr. A. Lavanya (Associate Professor, National Institute of Siddha) on traditional health wisdom and Siddha principles related to nutrition and lifestyle.

B.Sc. Criminology and Criminal Justice Science students volunteered in the "Walk Along 3.0" event (10/08/2025) at Elliot's Beach, Besant Nagar, Chennai, as part of the Chennai Day Celebrations. This community outreach and awareness activity provided students with an opportunity to engage with the public, promote civic responsibility, and connect their academic discipline with social awareness initiatives within the city.

Special Lecture on "The Consonance of the IPC" (24/10/2025). The Department of Criminology organized a special lecture by Mr. Krishna Bhagavat, Advocate, Madras High Court. The session focused on the consonance (harmony and coherence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), providing students with a detailed, expert perspective on the systematic structure, interpretation, and interconnectedness of various provisions within India's primary criminal statute.

"Insights into Forensics – A Peer Team Symposium" (28/10/2025). The Department of Criminology, in collaboration with the Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education & Research (MAHER), jointly organized a peer team symposium. The event served as a platform for students and participants to share knowledge, discuss practical applications, and gain deeper insights into the field of Forensic Science, covering topics like evidence collection, analysis, and its critical role in the criminal justice system.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

(28/05/2025 – 11/06/2025)

Students underwent a two-week experiential training program at the T6 Avadi Police Station. The internship provided invaluable, hands-on exposure to real-world criminal justice operations, allowing students to observe and study the functions, procedures, and daily activities of the Law & Order and Crime departments, including case file proceedings, documentation, patrolling duties, and community interaction, thereby bridging the gap between classroom theory and practical policing.

Railway Police (27/05/2025 – 06/06/2025). Students completed a practical training internship at the Perambur Railway Police Station. This focused program allowed students to study the unique jurisdiction, procedures, and challenges related to railway policing, including the investigation of crimes occurring on trains, railway premises, and station security management.

Cyber Crime (21/05/2025 – 31/05/2025). Students participated in an intensive training internship at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Avadi Police Commissionerate. The program provided crucial exposure to the investigation and handling of modern crimes, including digital forensics, cyber fraud, hacking, and online security protocols, linking theoretical knowledge with the rapidly evolving field of cyber law enforcement.

NGO (23/05/2025 – 15/06/2025). Students completed an extended internship at the Ouvai Foundation, a non-governmental organization. This exposure provided an understanding of the social justice side of criminology, focusing on victim support, rehabilitation, awareness campaigns, and community-based solutions outside of the formal legal and police system.

(20/05/2025 – 30/05/2025). Students engaged in a practical internship at the T-9 Police Station. This program offered direct exposure to local law enforcement operations, allowing students to observe and understand daily police functions, case filing procedures, evidence management, and community policing strategies within a specific jurisdictional context.

(29/05/2025 – 10/06/2025). Students engaged in a practical internship at the T-10 Police Station. The program offered direct exposure to local law enforcement operations, allowing students to observe and understand daily police functions, case filing procedures, evidence management, and community policing strategies within this specific jurisdictional context.

(29/05/2025 – 11/06/2025). Students completed a practical internship at the T-7 Police Station. This training focused on the practical application of criminology principles, including the observation of crime investigation protocols, public interaction, maintenance of law and order, and the functioning of the criminal justice system at the primary police station level.

Private Investigation (02/06/2025 – 16/06/2025). Students completed an internship at a Detective Agency. This training provided unique exposure to the field of private investigation, covering practical skills like covert surveillance techniques, gathering evidence for non-criminal and corporate cases (e.g., fraud, intellectual property), conducting background checks, and understanding the ethical and legal boundaries of private investigative work.

Local Policing (Tiruvallur) (02/06/2025 – 16/06/2025). Students completed a practical internship at the Tiruvallur Police Station. This two-week program provided critical exposure to the daily operations of a district-level police station, allowing students to observe and study investigative processes, maintenance of law and order, community engagement strategies, and the practical application of criminal laws in a non-metropolitan setting.

Outdoor Training Workshop (20/09/2025). Students participated in an intensive training program held at the Coonoor Scouts and Guides Camp Site in the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu. The workshop, conducted in an outdoor setting, focused on building essential life skills, team spirit, leadership qualities, physical fitness, and discipline through activities such as drilling, obstacle courses, and wilderness engagement.

1. MANIDHAM December 11, 2021

On behalf of Human rights day celebration, the department of criminology conducted a program named “Manidham” which included the participation of students of criminology from various colleges. The program was inaugurated by Dr. M. P. Nirmala IAS (Rtd),chairperson , Tamilnadu commission for protection of child rights.

2. S.H.I.E.L.D Inauguration May 6 2022

S.H.I.E.L.D. Association was formed through the initiatives of faculties along with the students. It was formed for the welfare of the students and to explore numerous career opportunities. This association ensures public safety through activities such as victim assistance, crime prevention awareness programs, assistance in road safety and community policing strategies. Imparting guidance for students in research, police training program, fire safety, certificate courses and various other programs for improving their skills according to the area of their interest.

3. LIFE SAVER COURSE

Life saver is a certificate course that was provided to the students of the department of criminology from May 9, 2022 to May 13, 2022. This course was conducted to develop the skills of FIRST AID AND FIRE SAFETY that would provide opportunities for the students to to focus on employment in the field of corporate security.

4. FIELD VISITS A) PRISON

Our students have visited the Central Prison, Puzhal and Open Air Prison, Coimbatore as a part of their curriculum.

B) INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH

Students have also visited the Institute of Mental Health, Kilpauk as a part of their academic curriculum.

C) HVF

Field visit to HVF on 18th December 2021 where the army tankers, missiles, equipment was showcased and its operating methods were explained by the experts.

5. SEMINAR

Our students have participated in a National seminar on “Emerging trends in cyber crime and cyber security” at DG Vaishnav college, Chennai and several endowment lectures at the University of Madras, Chepauk.

7. WORKSHOP

The Department of Criminology and Police Administration conducted a five day Research Methodology workshop from 12th July 2022 to 20th July 2022 for imparting the knowledge of SPSS software usage. The workshop included Proposal Draft, Review of Literature, Samplings Procedure & Techniques, Research Tools and Data Analysis and Referencing & Report Writing. Certificates were provided to the students who participated in the workshop. The workshop was carried out by Dr. K. Kuralarasan, Post Doctoral Fellow, Faculty of Law and Criminology, Institute for International Research on Criminal Policy, Ghent University, Belgium.

8. OUTDOOR TRAINING

The students of the department are provided outdoor training which includes drill, sports, and physical activities like rope climbing, long jump, high jump, etc. The department makes sure that all the students are equally benefited both in the part of academics and physical fitness. Students are trained in activities like drill, parade, etc. to make sure they maintain unity and discipline among themselves so that it could help them adapt easily to similar conditions in their future career.

2023-2024

1. Seminar

The Department of Criminology and Centre of Excellence organized a Cybercrime Educational Awareness session led by Mr. Ramesh E R on July 6th, 2023.

2. Webinar

The Department of Criminology organized a webinar on cybersecurity, presented by Mr. Sheik Mohammad, Technology Consultant, Protiviti India, on January 31, 2024.

3. International Conference

The Department of Criminology organized an ‘International Conference on Crimes Against Women & Children: Trends, Issues, and Challenges’ on March 1 & 2, 2024.

4. Awareness Program

The Department of Criminology, in collaboration with PCVC, conducted an awareness program on ‘Gender-Based Violence: Domestic Violence’ on February 15, 2024. The guest speakers were Ms. Fredrica Edinbrow and Ms. Monisha Raj.

5. Guest Lecture

The Department of Criminology, in collaboration with PCVC, conducted an awareness program on the scope of criminology in investigative journalism on January 31, 2024. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Che Guevara, Chief Program Producer and Head of News at TN Channel.

6.Field Visit
A. Puzhal Prison

Our students visited the Central Prison in Puzhal as part of their curriculum. They gained insights into inmate management, rehabilitation programs, and prison administration through interactions with officials and observations of daily routines

B. Observation Home

Students visited the Observation Home to understand the juvenile justice system. They observed living conditions, educational programs, and rehabilitation efforts, gaining insights into the challenges and successes in juvenile care.

C. Tamil Nadu Police Academy

The visit to the Tamil Nadu Police Academy provided students with an understanding of police training. They observed training sessions, including physical drills and specialized courses, highlighting the rigorous process of becoming a police officer.

D. Fire & Rescue Station

At the Fire & Rescue Station, students learned about fire-fighting equipment, observed mock drills, and understood emergency protocols. The visit emphasized the importance of preparedness and teamwork in fire services.

E. Avadi Police Station

Students visited the Avadi Police Station to observe daily police operations. They learned about administrative functions, case management, and community policing, gaining practical insights into maintaining law and order.

F. Vigilance Home

The visit to the Vigilance Home educated students on anti-corruption efforts and vigilance operations. They learned about investigative techniques and legal frameworks, highlighting the importance of integrity in public administration.

G.Metropolitan Magestrate Court

Students observed court proceedings at the Metropolitan Magistrate Court, learning about judicial roles, case management, and trial procedures. This visit provided practical insights into the judicial system.

H. Police Museum

The Police Museum visit exposed students to the history and evolution of policing in Tamil Nadu. They explored exhibits of historical artifacts and learned about significant events in police history, understanding the advancements in law enforcement.

I. Commissioner Office

During their visit to the Commissioner’s Office, students learned about high-level police administration and strategic planning. They gained insights into departmental coordination, crime data analysis, and policy formulation.

7. Internship

Our students have completed internships at several prestigious institutions, including CCR&D, PCVC, and the American India Foundation.

8. Certificate Courses

Some of our students has successfully completed a certification course on on fire and safety from the TN Fire and Rescue Service, Avadi

Course Outcomes (CO)

1. Imparted the significance of Human rights, Equality, political, Equality about sexual abuse basic human rights and important of gender cell.

2. Built a strong sense of unity and teamwork among the students. Imparted guidance for police training program, fire safety, certificate course. Various skill sets and talents of the students were identified.

3. Importance of situational awareness was imparted and diverse career opportunities in the field of corporate security were explored.

4. Created a sense of unity and discipline among the students through the outdoor training and drill provided to them as a part of their academic curriculum. This training also helped the students who choose uniform services as a career, as their training included the same activities.

5. Cyber security Expertise: Students gained comprehensive knowledge of cybercrime threats, legal frameworks, and potential career paths within the cyber security field. (Activities :Cybercrime education awareness & Cyber security webinar)

6. Investigative Journalism Skills: Students explored the critical intersection of criminology and investigative journalism, understanding the role of media in criminal justice processes.(Activity: Scope of criminology in investigative journalism)

7. Understanding Crimes against Vulnerable Populations: Through interactive participation in the International Conference, students critically analysed emerging trends, ongoing challenges, and potential solutions for crimes against women and children. 8. Domestic Violence Awareness and Resources: Students gained vital knowledge on the dynamics and consequences of domestic violence, along with the support systems and resources available through PCVC. (Activity: Domestic violence awareness by PCVC)

9. Practical Experience through Internships: Students actively participated in internships offered by PCVC, CCRD, and AIF, gaining valuable practical experience in diverse fields like criminal investigation, community corrections, and social work. (Activity: Internships)

10. Immersion in Criminal Justice System: Students embarked on industrial visits to various institutions such as police stations, fire stations, correctional facilities, courts, and police training academies, gaining first-hand exposure to the intricacies of the criminal justice system. 11. Lifesaving Skills Development: Students acquired critical lifesaving skills through certificate courses in fire and rescue operations and outdoor survival techniques. (Activity: Certificate course)


Program Outcomes (PO)

1. Manidham 2021, commemoration of Human Rights day was held on 13th December 2021. It provided knowledge on the causes of human rights violation and the importance of human rights.

2. Launch of S.H.I.E.L.D Students Association was held on 6th May 2021. It was an initiative to explore numerous diverse career opportunities for the students and envisions a safe environment for the public through various activities.

3. Lifesaver Certificate Course was conducted in collaboration with ISSP & Raksha Seva Trust from 9th May 2022 to 13th May 2022. It provided knowledge on first aid and fire safety and basic techniques to combat related situations.

4.National Conference Participation: Encouraged and supported student participation in national conferences, facilitating knowledge exchange and professional networking opportunities with leading figures in the field. (Activity: International conference on crimes against women and children)

5. Guest Lectures and Workshops: Organized engaging guest lectures and workshops (e.g.,Cybercrime education awareness, Cyber security webinar) delivered by subject matter experts, keeping students updated on contemporary issues and emerging trends within criminology and police administration.

6. Interdepartmental Collaboration: Fostered collaboration across departments by organizing competitions that promoted awareness and understanding of human rights.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSO)

1. Basic laws on human rights were educated to various other departments through interdepartmental competitions.

2. Physical training requirements were set up. Foundation of bylaws was drafted for effective functioning of the association. Established executive and various committee members

3. Practical Training first aid and fire safety was provided and an Emergency Response Team(ERT) was established.

4. Enhanced Career Preparation: Provided students with diverse opportunities for career exploration through workshops, conferences, and internship placements, equipping them with a strong foundation for success in their chosen fields.
