Program Outcomes (PO)

PO1: Familiarization with Statistics: Acquire a complete knowledge of Statistics (a science of variation) and its associative fields and subjects.

PO2: Become thorough with the functions of Statistics and understand its limitations.

PO3: Attain complete and comprehensive coordination of Mathematics and Statistical elements.

PO4: Creativity: Use statistical concepts and analytical tools creatively and acquire research-based knowledge.

PO5: Acquire a fair knowledge of the latest trends in statistical methods for social welfare.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSO)

PSO1: To understand the different important and essential concepts of Statistics and Mathematics.

PSO2: Acquire the basic skills and techniques to use the elements of Statistics.

PSO3: Define process and project concepts and the role played by statistical tools.

PSO4: To understand and use the statistical tools of various social and economic welfare projects.

PSO5: Acquire the basic knowledge of sampling techniques, unbiasedness, and adequacy of data.

CO1: To understand the basic concepts in Statistics and its applications in various fields.

CO2: To know about basic concepts in probability, probability concepts, probability distributions, and to use them in real-life situations.

CO3: To learn about sampling distributions and to understand the concepts of testing of hypothesis.

CO4: Enhance different optimization techniques and know how to optimize problems in a business environment.

CO5: To understand the concepts of statistical inference and the application of non-parametric tests.

CO6: To understand different sampling procedures with their mathematical derivations and to apply different sampling techniques in different situations.

CO7: To understand the concepts of SQC and DOE and their different types of applications in industries.

CO8: To understand official statistics and their role in framing policies in economics and business.

Measuring the Attainment of PO, PSO, and CO

The attainment of PO, PSO, and CO is measured by Continuous Internal Assessment Tests and Semester-end examinations conducted by the University of Madras. It is also measured by the students' performance in project assignments and survey-related tasks. The practical computations are useful in ascertaining how students have utilized statistical methods in real-life contexts. Practicability and appropriateness are treated as criteria for the attainment of outcomes. In general, the attainment is measured by a general emphasis on intellectual activity.

Level of Attainment of PO, PSO, and CO

PO: Become proficient in statistical concepts and demonstrate key concepts of statistical methods.

PSO: Become competent in theories of statistics, statistical methods, industrial, and official statistics.

CO: Make statistics an essential science of high human values.
